Each cell of an organism performs functions like nutrition, transport, excretion and reproduction for this purpose, it needs energy. Ths energy is stored in the food we eat. The process of breakdown of food material in the presence or absence of oxygen is called as Respiration. Some of the animals which do not have lungs for breathing are earthworm ,fish,grasshopper.Earthworm frog breathe through their skin. The animal living under water have 'gills' for breathing .
